The boys started against one of the pre event favourites Hartlepool A, and despite there bestefforts they lost 9-0. Next up was Ormesby B team and again the boys went down 9-0 but the game was closer thanthe score line suggests with Ben Kelly losing a game in 5 and Tom Whittakerlosing out 13-11 in the 5th on an edge ball. The third match of theday was the other pre event favourites, the team from Northumberland. The much older team showed their experienceand again the Bishop Team lost 9-0 but a spirited performance from Carl Draperwho has only been playing 3 months really made his opponent work for theirwins. The last match of the day was thebest performance of the day, playing against the Hartlepool “B” team. Things looked to be heading the same way withHartlepool heading into a 4-0 lead before Tom Whittaker out of the blue put ina great performance to pick up a 3-0 win and spark the team into action, Carl Draper then push the very promising and talented Joe Cope very hard before losing. Zak Hutchinson played out of his skinonly to lose 12-10 in the 5th. Then Man of the Match Tom Whittakerpulled out all the stops to win a very tense 5 set battle over Joe Cope.

Club coach Matt Porter said, "What we need to remember is that the boys have only beenplaying a matter of months, and the players they were playing have been playing much longer than our club has been running. I thought the boys did really well to comeback at the end of a long frustrating day to pull out some wins. We have a month to work hard and improve andthe boys now know what there aiming at."
