National Cadet League 17/18 Day 1

Table Topping Start for Table Tennis Club

The National Cadet League (U15’s) saw Bishop Auckland Table Tennis club aiming to better last year’s second place finish. The A Team of Jake Haygarth, Adam Hanby, Luke Mitchell and Hayden Gilmour started with a 9-0 win over the B team made up of Matthew Person, Sean Stobart and Joe White, they followed that up with a 9-0 win over Darlington Academy B and Darlington Dolphins before a crunch match with pre-event favourites Northfield, who side was made up of England mini cadets players.

The match was a great quality match with Jake Haygarth winning all his 3 including a win over the England number 14 under 13, Hayden Gilmour won two of his and Adam Hanby secured the vital win coming back from 2-0 down to win 3-2.  The Win sees the A team sit top of the table by one point over Ryedale and 7 points of Northfield in 3rd place.  The B team after their loss to the A team took it out on the C team with a 7-2 win over Joe White, Jack Anderson and Ben Ward and kept their momentum with a win over Ormesby before finding Northumbria to strong. The C Team with no experience at this level put in some fantastic performances but came away without any wins going down to Ryedale, The B team, Northumbria before a narrow 5-4 loss to Ormesby. C team players Jack Lomax and Jack Anderson both came away with enough wins to gain national rankings on the December list.
