Derby Para Grand Prix Gold for Andrew

Andrew Green was Bishop Auckland sole representative at the British Para Table Tennis Grand Prix event held in Draycott on the 1st July.

Andrew, who is a class 3 wheelchair player took part in the combined class 2 and 3 singles event in the morning, beating a player from Devon, Andy Guy. in his first game before a tricky match vs former England international Oye Jemiyo. A great performance from Andrew saw him come out on top to set up a semi with Noel Thomas, a recent medal winner at the Spanish open. Noels experience saw him come out on top beating Andrew 3-1.

The afternoon saw Andrew compete in the Band B event, based of national rankings and not ability classification, Andrew started with a tough win over Yorkshires Lee York, who would beat the other two players to finish in the silver medal place. Next up for Andrew was a repeat with a win over Andy Guy from Devon to set up a final match for the gold over Raul Popat from Herefordshire. Which saw Andrew coming out on top with a 3-1 win to take the Gold medal.
