Bronze for Ben at National Schools Finals


Bishop Auckland Table Tennis Club had 4 players at the National Schools Induvial Championships in Wolverhampton. All who had to win county qualifiers to get to the National finals

Anya Milne in the under 19’s came runner up in her group of 6 only losing to England Number 7 woman and eventual winner, the last 16 saw Anya the Buckingham shire champion to reach the quarterfinals before going down to Second seeded from Humberside.

Amy Mold also made it out of her group of 6 in the under 16s, also losing to the top player, England number 15 junior before scoring a great 3-1 win over number 17 Cadet. The last 16 saw England number 8 junior too strong.  

Jake Haygarth in the under 13 boys had England number 1 in his group but like the girls made it through in second place. The last 16 saw Jake face England number 3 from London. At 2-0 down it looked like Jakes day was over, but a strong attacking performance saw Jake come back to score a fantastic 3-2 win to reach the Quarters.   

Ben Mold was the 6th seed in the under 11’s event and duly won his group and his last 16 match without dropping a set, winning 18 sets on the bounce to reach the quarterfinals. His opponent was 4th seeded England number 8 from Cheshire. Ben put up a tremendous performance to come away 3-1 winner and make the semis and secure a bronze medal, his Semi final opponent was top seed and under 13’s number 2 who was too strong but had a fantastic match.
